Shadow Minister for Housing, The Hon. Sophie Cotsis MLC, will be visiting Ivanhoe Estate on Monday, 10 December 2012 to listen to residents' concerns about the future of their homes and community.
The visit was arranged on the back of a meeting with Ms Cotsis' at Parliament House, arranged by Councillor Jerome Laxale. "I have been advocating for the Ivanhoe Estate Tenants Group (IETG) since this matter was brought to my attention and I am particularly alarmed that they had still not received any clear direction as to what the O'Farrell government intends to do with their homes and community. This is no way to treat our local community."
Shadow Minister Cotsis was disturbed to hear the details of their ordeal. "To date, the Ivanhoe Community have had nothing but non-answers and obstruction from local member Mr Victor Dominello and ministers of the O'Farrell Government. This community has been poorly treated, and I am demanding that the Government provide clear answers to them."
Nearly 7 months have passed since residents were shocked by a news report on Channel 9, stating that their homes would be "knocked down."
President of the tenants group, Marie Sillars, says that residents have waited long enough and welcomes the decision by Ms Cotsis to personally discuss the community's concerns at their next public meeting. Mr Dominello has agreed to attend.
"To date we have received no real answers to our questions. In our community we have the elderly, families and people with disabilities; they all deserve to hear the truth, not just endless spin" says Marie Sillars.
