At the reconvened council meeting held on Tuesday 19/03/13, Clr Jerome Laxale moved to hold public workshops on the issue of planning reform.
We all know that the Liberal State Government has, with the support of Local Member Victor Dominello, commenced a complete overhaul of the NSW planning system on the back of promises to return planning powers back to local communities."
"With the Planning white paper and draft legislation due to be released sometime in late March, our community will have one final chance to be informed of the changes, and to provide their comment on is set to become law."
"As an elected representative, I feel it is important that provide an outlet for our community to provide valuable feedback wherever possible. On Tuesday, I gained approval from Council to hold a series of public workshops on the changes within one month of the White paper and the draft legislation being released."
Upon release of the White Paper, it is understood that there will be a short consultation period on the White paper and draft legislation, followed by passing of the new planning act in the NSW Parliament.
"Given the likely complexity of changes, I have requested that Council write to the NSW Government and the local member seeking six months of public consultation on the Planning Reform. These changes will have major implications for both the community and council, and it is essential that we have time to digest it all and have our voices heard."
The Planning reforms Workshops will be advertised by Ryde Council once the white paper has been officially released.
