Many of your already know that some areas in the City of Ryde have been a hotbed of activity for boarding houses. Mostly in some of our areas quietest streets. Boarding houses have been permissible in your area thanks to the State Government’s Affordable Rental Housing SEPP.

I am pleased to advise, that due to strong lobbying by the City of Ryde, the State Government is expected to soon introduce planning legislation to finally PROHIBIT boarding houses in our city's quietest streets.

Without your support, this change would not have been possible.

Boarding houses remain an important housing option. They provide housing flexibility and a cheaper housing particularly for those on a low income. They are very appropriate in town centres, along major transport routes, close to shops and facilities but not in quiet residential streets and cul-de-sacs.

I’m sure you will welcome this long overdue change. I will continue to call on the State Government to ensure this change is made quickly, so that this loophole can be closed once and for all.
