Save Ivanhoe

Despite promising an end to over-development "madness" the State Government have thundered ahead with their plans to build a 3500 unit monster development at the Ivanhoe Estate.

In a 76 page submission, Ryde Council has raised serious concerns about the NSW Government’s plans to build 3500 new dwellings on the corner of Herring and Epping roads at Ivanhoe Estate, warning that the new priority precinct will result in the destruction of endangered Sydney Turpentine Ironbark Forest and more traffic congestion on local roads.

The 3500 units set to replace the old Ivanhoe estate represents a 1250% increase on the 259 dwellings to be demolished by the NSW Government.

Member for Ryde, the Hon. Victor Dominello, has trumpeted the redevelopment of Ivanhoe Estate as a way for the Ryde community “to reap the benefits of community growth”.

Tell Mr Dominello and the State Government that we have had enough. Sign my petition to help Save Ivanhoe, and abolish priority precincts in Macquarie Park, North Ryde and Epping.

----------------------------

Mr Dominello,

Recently you said you wanted to stop the over-development "madness" in Ryde. How then is your Government thundering ahead with 3,500 unit monster development at the Ivanhoe estate in Ryde?

You've said Ryde has taken it's fair share; then why are you increasing density by 1250% on the site?

I oppose the removal of 858 trees and the destruction of the endangered ecological forest.

I object to the impact this monster will have on the Shrimptons Creek ecological corridor.

I am sick of sitting in traffic across our City, only to be made worse by this proposal which you support.

How can you say one thing in Ryde, and do another thing in Parliament? Stand with the Council and please abolish your priority precincts in North Ryde, Macquarie Park and Epping.

Regards,

Concerned Resident.

I totally oppose this development because it is overreach meaning there is no adequate local resources to accommodate increased traffic congestion, inappropriate design resulting in increased wind flow, heat loss and inappropriately low light levels in winter. But worst is the proposed meaningless destruction of an important stand of Iron barks that are of immense conservation & heritage importance & related destruction of Powerful Owl habitats in context Poweful Owls are known to gather in the area. I call on the approval authorities to retain the iron bark stand as well as protect the Powerful Owl habitat & only approve appropriately designed & healthy, spacious spaces in Ryde for which Ryde has been known and loved for decades.

As someone who has lived in East Ryde all my life, it has been distressing to see our once beautiful green city become a concrete covered, densely packed high-rise nightmare. Our infastructure isn’t coping as it is, but bringing in 3000+ units will made this once wonderful area unlivable. No consideration is being to the locals who are already situated here, no-one seems to care about how this proposal with destroy our quality of life and ruin out property values. Please fight this insane proposal – it spells disaster for our already struggling area.

Not only will existing residents suffer from over development and traffic chaos, I also feel sorry for the homeless native wildlife in the area.

Why did the email I received from Victor Dominello say he was opposed to the over development of Ryde and now this. Why send out something that was obviously a lie?

We are watching the destruction of our gorgeous city of Sydney…established gardens being destroyed and replaced with depressing ugly concrete structures..so many!!! Overdevelopment is an understatemnet! It is the destruction of our environment and our lifestyle!! What happened to protecting the delicate environment we live in? Global Warming Anyone? We are creating hot spots with no trees and wildlife in our city! Truly devastating!!

There are already too many units along Herring Road! Just look across the road front Ivanhoe! Then look right next to Macquarie Shopping Centre on Waterloo Road!

    No more units!!!

Why not build a park with a community garden? Skate park? Indoor centre?

So many options to chose from.

Ivanhoe Estate was public housing now sold to their developer mates, sell, sell, sell just like the public housing at The Rocks and the selling off of Sirius, it’s all about feathering the nests of their mates and subjecting the local area to more high rise, congestion and what do we have to show for it complete silence from the two local members for Ryde and Lane Cove.
