Save Marsden High | Save Meadowbank Public School

Recently, local Liberal MP Victor Dominello announced his plan to close two schools in Ryde; Marsden High and Meadowbank Public.

This plan is ridiculous beyond belief.

As the State Government continue to target Ryde with over-development, we need more schools, not closed schools. Marsden High is over-capacity now, any moves to close it would be short-sighted and a slap in the face to parents who have been promised more schools in Ryde.

Sign and share below petition and let's SAVE MARSDEN HIGH AND MEADOWBANK PRIMARY from the bulldozers.

The Hon. Victor Dominello MP

Member for Ryde

Dear Mr Dominello,

Your decision to close Marsden High School and Meadowbank primary is short-sighted in the extreme. I oppose your decision and ask that you immediately over-turn it.

Ryde has been targeted by the State Government with more and more development. The number of children aged five to 19 in Ryde will grow by more than 51 per cent over 20 years to at least 27,800 in 2036, according to NSW Department of Planning projections.

We need more schools in Ryde, not closed schools.

    What a joke this is!

Meadowbank is currently a city of its own with the new rediculous residential mess that has been created!

How you gonna manage school traffic through here as well!

    What a mess!

Don’t ruin my old school cause you will destroy meadowbank!

We have a growing population in this area and our government wants to close these 2 schools. if they close these 2 schools are they going to build new schools or are they going to build units. When they build these units, the people that will live in them will have children and their children will need to be educated and they will want to sent their children to the local school but they will not be able to do that as their is no local school because the government decided to shut them down.

Children thrive in smaller schools and not in mega size school campuses. I’m opposed to closing Marsden High and Meadowbank Primary.

Winbourne Street is an educated street by the fact children attend any of the child care centres from the age of 3 months ,then proceed to Ermington Primary at 5 – 12 years and commence Marsden from year 7 to higher school certificate.

As residents in Winbourne Street —-this is the way we like it!! ( not whistles blowing all week end and into the evening as with ERNA)

Have a teaching involvement in the area and am shocked at the planned closure of school sites.

As an ex-student of Marsden High School (1964-70), I may not live in the area now but am linked to my old school & to the area In which I grew up.

The years I spent at Marsden provided me with a wealth of knowledge & support which laid the foundations for my entire adult life. I went on to complete further studies & finished my career as a Nursing lecturer at Curtin University. None of my career would have been such a joy to me without the years spent at Marsden. All these years later, I am still in conduct with many of my “old” school friends – there are even a number of us who ended up in WA who remain friends to this day.

For these reasons, I am strongly against the moving of Marsden from its current site, as are a number of Marsden friends in the West.

Given the massive increase in numbers at local primary schools and the expansion of apartments in the area, and planned new Melrose Park development (1800+ apartments) just near Marsden High, closing Marsden is a short sighted plan. Like the closure of Ryde High ‘86 and Meadowbank High in ‘83, now both being rebuilt!

Please STOP selling off Australia, particularly when it’s a school or property owned by us, the people. We need more schools in the area, not just one gigantic monstrosity, where children can get lost in the crowd of literally thousands of children. There is nothing personal about this. It seems like a production line.

    Our kids deserve better.

MORE schools is what we need… not the closure and opening of one Mega School. This is ludicrous… kids are more than just a number… and that’s all they will will become in schools like this. Not good enough!

As populations increase due to new apartment dwellers starting new families the heritage schools will be needed. Meadowbank Public has the neighbouring Crowle Apartments as part of it’s catchment -plan for the 20s, 30s and beyond and keep these heritage schools.
