Stop Twin Road Sale

Community Land opposite a public school is precious. It should not be sold.

The State Government are selling prime land off to the highest bidder. Please sign below petition to oppose it's sale. Let's call on the Government to not sell this land.

The Hon. Victor Dominello MP

Member for Ryde, Minister for Property, Finance and Services

Dear Mr Dominello,

I ask you to stop the sale of land at 31 Twin Road North Ryde. Once land leaves control of the Government, the people lose control of its future.

Being opposite a growing public school, and very close to the North Ryde Common, this land could be used for much better purposes. It is not a prime "development opportunity", it is public land that should be retained for public services.

If this land is sold, then where do the sell offs end?

Concerned Ryde Resident.

I don’t live in the Ryde area but as a resident of Sydney I have become absolutely incensed by the way in which the current government has allowed development to occur with no infrastructure planning beyond building toll roads. This must stop before Sydney becomes unliveable.

It costs a lot of money to buy back the farm ….and the opportunity to do so in the future is not guaranteed. It was fortunate ( good luck or good management?) that the paddocks in Smalls Road and Meadowbank were retained . They will now be put to good use investing in the future of our children. Not so lucky with the Peter Board debarkle. A lesson here … don’t sell off public land… it’s an asset worth protecting!

    Dear Victor,

An independent inquiry into planning for the Ryde LGA is urgently required. Massive over-development has already been approved by the NSW Government without regard or concern for the future needs of the community. All our suburbs are under siege by clearing, excavation and construction of two dwellings on lots of 580 m2 and more.

The public land at Twin Road should be assessed for future use for community purposes, including long-term educational needs and child-care, and also for natural values. The proposed sale should not proceed in all the circumstances.

NSW Health is not a real estate developer. The future of precious public lands should not be decided by one agency. Public health funding cannot and must not rely on the sale of public land in the current manner. It is outrageous and appalling and deserves condemnation.

The land adjoins the Wallumatta Nature Reserve which has an endangered ecological community (EEC) of Sydney Turpentine Ironbark Forest. The subject land would include seedbank that is included in the determination of the EEC under the Threatened Species Conservation laws of NSW.

Subject to expert ecological advice, part of the subject land adjoining the Wallumatta Reserve should be set aside for addition to the Reserve land and provision of a public park.

NSW Health acted irresponsibly in developing 26 group homes on land identified as EEC on the Macquarie Hospital site on Badajoz Road, when there were many alternative sites available. In accordance with NSW Government policy on bio-banking, providing land for regeneration and a public park would make some amends for the damage to the natural environment and loss of the land on the main hospital site used for many years for recreation by people visiting patients in the hospital.

Ryde Council was specifically requested some years ago by the Norfolk Green Community Association to call for NSW Health to prepare a management plan for the health properties. This plan would ensure that the public land is not the subject of more ad-hoc decisions, such as the nursing home approval, which ignored community requests for a Bushland corridor between the EECs. It would also mean that EEC lands would not be cleared unnecessarily as they were for the group homes.

It would also mean that the EEC lands would potentially be zoned Environmental Conservation E2 under a new Ryde LEP.

There are already too many residential developments in Ryde area. The apartments in this area is over supplied , that’s why the property price dropped over 7% in 2017-2018

This open space should be kept green as there is already too much development happening in our area. How about establishing a community garden that the local residents and school children can become involved in, a beautiful and practical use of the land!

Too much public land is being sold to the highest bidder and over development is resulting in loss of open space for recreation and green areas. We need more green not less so please don’t lose this … the community needs it now more than ever.
