Folks, we need to talk about West Ryde.
Since I was first elected to City of Ryde in 2012 people have approached me asking when Council was going to do something about West Ryde Town Centre. Don’t get me wrong I love West Ryde, but it is tired. We all want a town centre with bars, restaurants and better pedestrian connections. It is clear that the current planning controls cannot and will not achieve that.
So now, I need your help.
Please visit http://www.ryde.nsw.gov.au/haveyoursay/WestRydeTC and leave your feedback on 2 options that Council have put together based on community consultation. Both will propose modest changes to planning controls and outline how long it will take for West Ryde to be what we all want it to be.
Importantly both options have taken into account previous feedback received in regards to traffic congestion in and around local streets. It is also clear that our community do not want high rise development in the West Ryde town centre. While some Liberals didn’t support my motion to rule out 20+ storeys in the town centre, thankfully we had the numbers to support ruling that out.
